The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced today the nominees for the 39th Annual Daytime Entertainment Emmy Awards. Among the nominees are many LGBT-inclusive shows, which feature some of the most prominent out characters and personalities in daytime television.
The NBC daily drama Days of Our Lives has received a total of fifteen nods, including one in the Outstanding Drama Series category and a nomination for Chandler Massey’s portrayal of gay character Will Horton in the Outstanding Young Actor in a Drama Series category. The inclusive daily drama All My Children was also nominated in the Outstanding Drama Series and featured Bianca Montgomery, a lesbian character, until the series stopped airing on ABC last year. The drama racked up a total of eleven nominations. Another notable daily drama among this year's nominees is The Bold and the Beautiful which airs on CBS and is slated to feature a lesbian storyline in the near future.
Among the many talk shows nominated, three are LGBT inclusive. The Ellen DeGeneres Show received an impressive twelve nods including one in the Outstanding Talk Show/Entertainment category. Also nominated in that category is the CBS program The Talk which was created by out co-host Sara Gilbert. The program received two nominations, as did The Nate Berkus Show, which is sadly scheduled to go off the air this month.
GLAAD congratulates all the nominees and thanks The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences for recognizing LGBT-inclusive programs in daytime television. The Daytime Emmy Awards will be presented on June 23, 2012 in Los Angeles.
